BUSH WITH BRAINS:
10 REASONS WHY GIULIANI SHOULD NEVER BE PRESIDENT

"The man lies with staggering impunity. But here's the thing: he does it with such conviction and such seeming authority that people who are not inclined to study the matter will believe him - will in fact be utterly convinced that Giuliani is speaking the gospel truth."
Michael Tomasky, The Guardian

According to The Guardian, Giuliani is "one dangerous man: it's George Bush with brains." Here's 10 reasons why Ghouliani would never get to be president on a sane planet. If, on the other hand, these 10 titles personify for you the traits of an ideal president, knock yourself out.

Having Crooked Friends...
Like Bernard B. Kerik, whose nomination as homeland security secretary in 2004 ended in scandal, is likely to be charged with several felonies, including tax evasion and conspiracy to commit wiretapping. Kerik rose from being a warden and police detective to become Giuliani's campaign security adviser, corrections chief, police commissioner and eventual partner in Giuliani-Kerik, a security arm of Giuliani Partners, which Giuliani established after leaving office in 2001. [story]

Supporting Pedophile Priests...
Giuliani hired a Catholic priest to work in his consulting firm months after the priest was accused of sexually molesting two former students and an altar boy and relieved of his duties by the church. Monsignor Alan Placa went to school with Giuliani and officiated at his wedding to Donna Hanover after helping him get his first marriage annulled. "I know the man; I know who he is, so I support him," Giuliani said. "We give some of the worst people in our society the presumption of innocence and benefit of the doubt," he said. "And, of course, I'm going to give that to one of my closest friends." [story]

Lies About His Accomplishments (#1)...
On his Web site, Rudy Giuliani claims that he grew New York City's police force by 12,000 officers between his inauguration as mayor in January 1994 and mid-2000. That's just not true. Most of the cops he's counting – 7,100 to be exact – were already housing or transit police who were simply folded into the New York Police Department. The merger of the departments didn't increase the number of police in the city at all. [story]

Faked Ground Zero Hero Status...
In August he lied that he spent as much time, if not more, at ground zero exposed to the same health risks as workers combing the site after the Sept. 11 attacks, and so was "in that sense ... one of them." In fact, the Times found, he only spent 29 hours at the terror site between Sept. 17 and Dec. 16. He was later forced to 'admit' that he'd 'misspoke.' Or lied as it's more commonly called. [story]

Negligence Led to More 9-11 Deaths...
Ghouliani claims he was advised to to house his Mayoral emergency command center on the 23rd floor of Seven World Trade Center - even after the first terrorist attack in 1993. "My Director of Emergency Management recommended Seven WTC," Giuliani insisted. Former Emergency Management Director, Jerry Hauer, rebuts Giuliani's claims as a "a flat out lie." The 9-11 Commission report went on to criticize the decision for putting the Office of Emergency Management out of action after the attacks and preventing it from providing vital information and assistance to other agencies. The report states that "With better understanding of the resources available, additional units might not have been dispatched to the South tower at 9:37" thus implying more lives could have been saved. [story]

Lied About Prostate Cancer...
"My chance of surviving prostate cancer — and thank God I was cured of it — in the United States? Eighty-two percent," says Rudy Giuliani in a new radio ad attacking Democratic plans for universal health care. "My chances of surviving prostate cancer in England? Only 44 percent, under socialized medicine." It would be a stunning comparison if it were true. But it isn't. Factcheck.org say: "It's true that official survival rates for prostate cancer are higher in the U.S. than in England, but the difference is not nearly as high as Giuliani claims. And even so, the higher survival rates in the U.S. may simply reflect more aggressive diagnosing of non-lethal cancers, according to the American Cancer Society. Actually, men with prostate cancer are more likely to die sooner if they don’t have health insurance, according to a recent study published in one of the American Medical Association’s journals. Giuliani doesn't mention that." [story]

Rampant Egomania, Disrespect For History Plus Added Lying...
During a visit to London in September, Giuliani dumbed down Churchill's contribution to history as being the "greatest example of a crisis manager" in a pathetic attempt to create an equivalency between the great statesman and himself [story]. Giuliani has always cast himself as the 'lone voice' warning of the dangers of terrorism before 9-11 - much like Churchill warning against the dangers of Hitler prior to the war. But, according to the Giuliani Papers, there is one problem with this self-characterization: It is without any basis in fact.

"In his eight years as mayor, beginning in January 1994, right after the Islamist bombing of the World Trade Center in 1993, Giuliani said nothing about the threat of Islamist terrorists in general or Bin Laden in particular. And worse, he did nothing to improve the preparedness of the city and its responders to deal with future attacks."

Typical of Giuliani's claims on the campaign trail is a speech he gave last summer in which he said of the pre-9/11 period, "Bin Laden declared war on us. We didn't hear it. ... I thought it was pretty clear at the time -- but a lot of people didn't see it, couldn't see it." But Wayne Barrett, a reporter for New York's Village Voice and author of Grand Illusion: The Untold Story of Rudy Giuliani and 9/11, has now obtained leaked memos describing Giuliani's testimony before the 9/11 Commission. "He basically said, 'I knew nothing about al Qaeda.'" Says Barrett. [story]

A "Clintonian" On Social Issues (this one's for you, wingnuts)...
Giuliani is trying hard to schmooze Jeezuzland. But several inconvenient facts stand in his way. It's unlikely he'd ever overturn Rowe v, Wade being as his position on abortion is an "ultimate decision by a woman, her conscience & her doctor." and that "allowing choice keeps government out of people's lives." [story] He also once expressed gratitude to a gay couple who put him up while 'between marriages' by telling them "that if they ever legalized gay marriages, we would be the first one he would do." [story]

Lies About Economics...
Giuliani has been broadcasting radio advertisements in Iowa and other states far from the city he once led stating that as mayor of New York, he "turned a $2.3 billion deficit into a multibillion dollar surplus." Independent fiscal analysts, however, see it differently. In fact, Giuliani left Bloomberg with a bigger deficit than the one he had to deal with when he arrived in 1994. [story]

Lies About His Religion...
Could there be anything more crass and less scrupulous than lying about your own faith? Meet Rudy. Although he touts himself as a "devout Catholic" in good-standing with his church, the reality is somewhat at odds with the image. According to Wayne Barrett "Married three times, Giuliani simply isn't the Catholic candidate he claims to be. He can't have a confessor. He can't receive the sacraments of penance, the Eucharist, or marriage. While bishops disagree about whether or not a Catholic politician who supports abortion rights can receive the sacraments, there is no disagreement about the consequences of divorcing and remarrying outside the church, as Giuliani did a few years ago." FASTER THAN A SPEEDING LIE, STRONGER THAN THE STINK OF CORRUPTION... IT'S SUPERNIXON!

Say what you like about dead Richard Nixon - and many did - but I can't help secretly admiring him. The bastard emerged broke from Quaker Hicksville with a massive chip on his shoulder only to reinvent himself as the awesome powerhouse of Nietzchian ruthlessness that single-handedly destroyed 200 years of public trust in government.

Nixon was the benchmark in political cynicism and self-serving chutzpah... until 2000 when America was introduced to wild-mannered Ivy League brat GW Bush - the man who was to become Supernixon.

Since Daddy and Billy Graham scored him the White House on the back of the most suspect general election this side of Nigeria, Bush has plumbed depths of political depravity Tricky Dick didn't even know existed. One day in the 80s, corporate America fucked religious intolerance and from this unnatural coupling sprang forth the unibrowed meat puppet we have come to know and hate. From illegal wars to fiddling while New Orleans floods, Bush's presidency has promoted straight evil as policy, basked in the Stygian stink of corruption and provided a rallying call for every crackpot Christian Nazi and hate-filled fuckwit in America.

Two terms based on destroying the heart and soul of American democracy, hated by the world and still not within spitting distance of an impeachment? It's no mean feat... George W. Bush truly is Supernixon. (top)
