REPUBLICANS
WHO HAVE SERVED
Here
are the lonely Republicans who put their money where their
mouths were and fought for their country. As you may notice,
there
are slightly fewer of them.
You may also wonder that these guys who
have experienced war, seem to be the only Republicans who
have any qualms about starting them. A |

Hagel,
Chuck (R - NE) Saw active service. A highly decorated
Vietnam War veteran, receiving the Vietnamese Cross of
Gallantry,
Purple
Heart,
Army Commendation
Medal and
the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Hagel
was one of the first Republicans to break ranks and speak
out against the war in Iraq. "The worst thing we can
do is hold ourselves hostage to some grand illusion that
we're winning," he said in 2004. "Right
now we're not winning. Things are getting worse.

McCain,
John (R - AZ) Saw active service in Vietnam. POW
from 1967 to 1973. Trashed by George W. Bush during the
2000 presidential
race.
McCain
has been critical of Bush's handling of the Iraq war and,
unlike his boss, actually had the balls to meet
with Cindy Sheehan. Although the meeting was mutually disappointing,
McCain is still the nearest the Bush regime have to a resident
peacenik.

Stevens,
Ted (R - AK) Saw active service as a pilot with
the "Flying
Tigers" of
the Fourteenth Air Force from 1943 to 1946, holding the rank
of First Lieutenant.
He's
keen on the war in Iraq and often chides the Dems for criticizing
it. But he's a representative
for Alaska and, as such, red-necked lunacy is de rigeur.

"Americans
live in freedom because of our veterans' courage, dedication
to duty, and love of country. On Veterans Day, we honor
these brave men and women who have served in our Armed
Forces and defended our Nation. Across America, there are
more than 25 million veterans. Their ranks include generations
of citizens who have risked their lives while serving in
military conflicts... They have fought for the security
of our country and the peace of the world. "
George
W Bush, Veterans Day pabulum, 2004
